Our hotel retains the original façade of an old palace constructed in 1929, when Barcelona held its second Universal Exposition. Whereas the 1888 exposition served as an opportunity to modernise the city centre, this second one led to the reconstruction of the Montjuïc area, with many buildings in the early twentieth century “noucentisme” style that have become authentic emblems of the city: Plaça d'Espanya, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, Poble Espanyol and the palace which is now our hotel.
The garden area created for the exhibition, which added character to much of Montjuïc, was designed by Forestier and is an authentic display of the most representative species of the Mediterranean coast, making it the perfect spot for a sunset stroll.
The palace, designed by famous architect Ramon Raventós and inaugurated by King Alfonso XIII, was the scene of elegant banquets and balls up until 1959, when the Spanish Television studios were installed there. In 1983, the studios were moved to Sant Cugat, and the building was left empty.
In 2006, following an imaginative restoration directed by famous architect Óscar Tusquets, the palace’s former splendour and glory was restored, with the addition of stylish avant-garde décor and a wide range of deluxe services.
Now, the Hotel Miramar Barcelona is an exclusive lodging house that allows visitors to enjoy Barcelona from an exclusive setting.
